The Lakeshore is on Lake Superior, east of Marquette. Pictured Rocks Cliffs at Miners Castle are seven miles east of Munising off County Road H-58. The Munising Information Center is at the intersection of M-28 and H-58. The Interpretive Center is at Munising Falls, two-and-one-half miles east of Munising. The headquarters building is at Sand Point, two miles further. Grand Sable Visitor Center is one mile west of Grand Marais. The Grand Marais Maritime Museum is at Coast Guard Point in Grand Marais.
WHEN TO VISIT
Open year round, but some areas may be closed in Winter due to snow. Campsites open May to November. Peak visitor month is August. Summers are pleasant and warm; Winters are cold with over 200 inches of snowfall.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Multi-colored sandstone cliffs, broad beaches, sand bars, dunes, waterfalls, inland lakes, ponds, marshes, hardwood and coniferous forests, and numerous birds and animals comprise this scenic area on Lake Superior. This was the first national Lakeshore.
Summer and Winter activities may be enjoyed in the area. Food, supplies, and overnight accommodations are available in Munising and Grand Marais. Pets are not allowed in the backcountry and must be kept on a leash in other areas. The Lakeshore has 67 campsites, and other campgrounds are available at Lake Superior State Forest and Hiawatha National Forest.
